Fourth Generation of Computers - Microprocessor-
(1975 – 1988 )
The
fourth generation computers started with the invention of Microprocessor.
These
computers used the VLSI technology or the Very Large Scale Integrated (VLSI)
circuits technology.
The
Microprocessor contains thousands of ICs.
Intel
was the first company to manufacture a microprocessor.
First
commercial microprocessor was intel 4004.
Federico
Faggin, Marcian Hoff, Masatoshi Shima and Stanley Mazor were the scientists
behind first microprocessor.
More
powerful and reliable than previous generations.
Semiconductor
memory such as RAM, ROM e.tc. were used
Input
and Output devices were Keyboard, Monitor, Printer, Scanning devices e.t.c.
Size
reduced considerably compared to older generations
Examples
are Apple Macintosh, IBM 4341, DEC 10, STAR 1000 and PUP 11.
High
level languages are used as programming language
